Alcohol crept up on me, my drinking was hidden in the background. I have a sibling who is an addict so to the outside world, in comparison, my drinking looked normal – but it wasn’t. I was unhappy with my life and uncomfortable and restless.
I am a single Mum with a young son, and I run my own business so full-time residential addiction rehab just wasn’t an option for me.
Thankfully, the Phoenix Day Care Programme enabled me to get treatment whilst still being able care for my son, and to keep my business going.
Through the lectures and one-to-one therapy, the specialist addiction team helped me see I am an alcoholic, and that is nothing to be ashamed of. It is a disease, a progressive one, so it will only get worse. Alcohol does something different to me than to other people.
I enjoyed the sessions, learning about the disease and how it affects my life and the people in it, and the flexible course structure was perfect for me, I was able to attend two hours per day over two months.
During that time, I was taken through the twelve steps and I have now been given a new reason for living. Since completing the initial course I have been back and made full use of the Aftercare programme and I have felt supported and guided throughout.

The team are professional, experienced, and caring - I have been given a different life. I have learnt to ask for help and not to isolate myself emotionally. I was so lucky to find Phoenix Programmes and I would say to anyone thinking about getting into treatment – give them a try, there is no one more experienced in the treatment of addiction – and it will give you a new lease of life!

I have learnt so much through being shown in detail the 12 Step program.
